Martin Peeves is a Newmedia artist of Ghanaian heritage who lives and works in Philadelphia, U.S.A. Peeves engages with his subjective experience as an African immigrant creative interfacing with Western and contemporary world cultures. His interdisciplinary artworks explore and interpret the multifaceted realities of assimilation. Using art as an integral activity for play and research, Peeves draws inspiration from his everyday socio-cultural context for his artistic practice which is influenced by theories about the everyday life. He makes music by incorporating elements of improvisation mixed with found sounds and mundane recordings of everyday moments. Peeves also mines social media and internet subcultures as avenues for performance using methods of characterization. As a self-taught designer he creates customized from found materials to produce up-cycled fashion.
